"You mean I could get hurt too??" |
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is a grandstanding coward.
On TV this morning, he said that the U.S. should start bombing Tripoli, the capital of Libya, to get Gaddafi out of power. This is the best strategy this big-brain can come up with.
He also said: "So I would not let the U.N. mandate [against excessive force] stop what is the right thing to do.”
Here's how I would answer that. Send Congress and the Executive of the U.S. to Tripoli with their families. Set up a defensive perimeter around them and THEN let them work out how to handle the situation. I guarantee you there'd be plenty of this:
"Well, obviously the bombing thing is out. We're going to have to stop BSing around now and work out how to do this thing correctly. You know, so we minimize the blood and destruction and find a solution that gets the job done with the least loss of life."
Fear is a great antidote for hubris.
You see, it's easy to say "Start bombing" when it's OTHERS who'll die. But if YOUR life, and your children's lives, could be at risk, it suddenly looks kind of messy and, well, f***ing barbaric. Time for a little more finesse and humanity.
Which side of that line, as human beings, do we really want to be on?
Take care,
Adrian
