the National Day on Writing!
Recognizing the profound importance of writing in the daily lives of all Americans, the U.S. Senate recently passed a resolution supporting the National Council of Teachers of English outreach initiative that celebrates October 20 as the National Day on Writing. The goal of this resolution is to emphasize the "lifelong process of learning to write and compose for different audiences, purposes, and occasions."
On the National Day on Writing, an online gallery of submitted works will be unveiled for everyone to read and view a wide variety of written and multi-media pieces. Contributions will include an expansive array of stories, poems, recipes, musings, audio, video, and artwork created by Americans of all ages and from all walks of life. You can contribute! And you can start a local gallery!
