Leprosy

When someone speaks or when I hear or see the word 'Leprosy', immediately I think about the bible. The verses I have read about the people who suffered leprosy in the past. I remember the stories of people who were cast out of the tents, communities because of the disease. The thought of them staying/ camping at the city gates because they were not allowed to be around other people.

Recently I found that there is 'World Leprosy Day' and when I started reading about it I was shocked that there are people who still live like the time of the past generations.

In some countries the disease is worse thatn other places and its a factor. People are rejected by their own family members, cast out, rejected, cursed by friends, neighbours. I cannot answer why families, friends, neighbours reject their loved ones, mainly because leprosy is curable.
On the 25th January is World Leprosy Day (the commemorative day in South Africa).

There are many people who are trying to learn about the disease and teach others on how to prevent or about the sickness. But how do you teach / spread information to communities without, phones, internet, clinics, schools or television? How do you teach them the importants of early treatment? Only support teams, missions, street actors, travel health teams are able to do that. We on the other hand are previledged to have all the things that are able to help us know about the sickness. Why not teach someone or let someone else know that leprosy still exists even today and they will tell others...

Leprosy is not a thing of the past, many are still suffering from the disease.
