Water or Vinegar

Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When He had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished."With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:29,30

When He asked for water, the soldiers took what was close to them (vinegar) and gave to the Lord to drink. For the soldiers to go down and get water and come back to the cross - it would have been a sacrifice. A sacrifice that they did not want to make, for this reason they took what was close to them - what required no sacrifice, no effort, what was not important.

"One of the soldiers pierced Jesus on the side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water." V34. The last thing that came out of the body of Jesus was water. He gave His life, His all on the cross; He gave water which is life, He made the sacrifice of His life.

We can either give water or vinegar - it is up to us. We only need to remember that water gives life but vinegar inflicts pain on the wound.
