There are many reasons the energy derived from coal is called dirty. One of them is the permanent damage done to the communities where waste from the mining practice is dumped. Sierra Club wants your help to protect people from the fallout of coal mining... toxic ash:
"Two years ago this week our nation suffered a major disaster. More than a billion gallons of toxic coal ash sludge flooded communities in Harriman, Tennessee, poisoning the environment and causing irreparable damage. While the administration has made progress in clean-up efforts, the agency must take decisive action to prevent this from ever happening again. The Environmental Protection Agency must choose the stronger of its proposed federal safeguards for coal ash and publish a final rule in 2011. Please join us today in telling them enough is enough."
