YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

Okey dokey, you have no shortage of New Year's resolutions.

You've decided you're going to hit the gym and knock off 10 pounds. You'll be more assertive at work; gentler at home; happier in your mind. You will fix your foibles and add much luster to your life. Yep, 2011 will be the year of you. Hey, seriously, why not?

But don't end it there.

Here are some suggestions that involve you but are not all about you (and yes, I include myself here). Pick one. Pick two. But don't overdo it: Just do what you say you will.

Here we go:

-- You will think daily of those less fortunate -- and do something to help.

-- You will seek out good information about what's going on in the world beyond your comfort zone.

-- You will do one positive thing for social progress each day: even if it's just signing one online petition or sharing some information with a friend.

-- You will sponsor a child in the Third World.

-- You will speak up when a fair voice is needed.

-- You will have the courage of your convictions.

-- You will give some food to the poor every week or every month.

-- You will pause to help people who need help.

-- You will write to your congressperson, your president, your governor about any issue of import to you. These are public servants. Make them earn their pork.

-- You will not use your cell phone OR TEXT while driving (or in any freakin movie theater I'm in!).

-- You will take in less of the Idiot Culture and enjoy more meaningful conversations.

-- You will be more giving than greedy.

-- You will not waste. Whether it's food, water, time, opportunities...

-- You will not ditch any of these resolutions that you select once you've begun them.

That's a start. Let me hear some of your own.

I'll post this now so you have plenty of time to procrastinate. :-)

Take care,
Adrian
