Analysis: NPR "Tell Me More" Interviews Commander In Chief Obama - Why The Previous Review Of Detroit Must Be Included For A Complete Analysis

(Legitimate) Journalist Michelle Martin recently did an interview with Commander In Chief Barack Obama and talked about a number of things that are presently upon the table.

  • The Debt Ceiling Debate
  • The Black Unemployment Rate
  • The "Black Progressive On Black Progressive" Fight Over "Speaking Truth To Power" Or Carrying The Power's Megaphone So He Will Be Rested Up For The 2012 Election
  • The Attacks On Michelle Obama's Childhood Obesity Initiative

My goal is to move beyond a transactional analysis of the conversation and instead place the entire Obama Presidency into the proper context and then come back around to analyzing why it is erroneous to analyze Obama in the context of the present transactional fight at hand.   I did not necessarily expect Michelle Martin to walk into the conversation with MY constructs in mind.   I am choosing to define them for everyone's understanding.

Obama Must Be Seen As "The Cherry On Top Of The 'Black Progressive Agenda - Fused With The American Political Domain" And Not As A Distinct Entity

Go back and read the words of Bayard Ruskin and how he was certain, back in 1968, that the investments made by the Black Rank & File into the "Portfolio" that he and other Civil Rights leaders, grieving from Dr King's recent death, had put together as the primary means for "happy living" for Black people in America.
This is easily understood as the definitive point by which the "Black Community Development Agenda" was fused with the Democratic Party and Progressive Politics - as the primary VEHICLE by which our people would achieve favorable ends.

Using this strategy there were a slew of:

  • favorable city council members
  • favorable school board members
  • favorable mayors
  • favorable judges
  • favorable district attorneys
  • favorable police chiefs & sheriffs
  • favorable county board members
  • favorable state house representatives
  • favorable state senators
  • favorable US house representatives
  • favorable US Senators
  • and today - a favorable Commander In Chief / President
(Note: "favorable" does not equal "Black".  Favorable equals Progressive - as represented by the 50%+1 Black voter investment)

The centerpiece of my argument is that the list above represents a POWER STRUCTURE
The METHODOLOGY is "Progressivism"
The VEHICLE is "The Democratic Party"

We can all agree that the Vehicle, Methodology and Power Structure is clearly visible - all due to the healthy investment of "Equal Black Ballots" and the fused "Black Community Consciousness" to the effort.

I should also mention that all pretense of there being an "Organic Black Community Development Agenda" (outside of the "American Political Domain") are gone.    With the attainment of our stolen "2/5ths" and the full integration of our awareness into the bloody American political discourse - the Black American is now fully engulfed in American politics.   Malcolm X's warnings about the consequences of this were not heeded.

WHERE ARE THE RESULTS WHERE IT COUNTS?
I am fully aware that for some of you "Obama In Office" IS YOUR EVIDENCE of critical Black community progress.
Sadly you are mistaken.   The election of Barack Obama to the office of the President was an American phenomenon - showing the stage of advancement of this nation in the enforcement of its laws.   Sadly some "Ocean boilers" point to the states where Obama lost as evidence of RACISM.  These same people look at the 96% Black voter investment in Obama and the Democrats in 2008 and see a "Wise Investment Strategy".

When a people are made to look at  the accouterments that surround the core of what they desire the most (ie: a growing Black headcount in politics) and utilize these figures as a substitute for what the Vital Statistics are showing otherwise - naturally they are very likely vulnerable to more calls for their "investment capital" by those who are positioned as such.

In the interview with Michelle Martin of "Tell Me More" I credit the interview with bringing the subject of "Black Unemployment" up for the Commander In Chief's to discuss.

Obama chose to expand the window back to 2001 as the interval of time by which there were too few jobs created in America and now we are suffering from the cumulative effects of the policy decisions.

If we take this situation out for discussion with the Black Rank & File - we would likely hear what I heard on the radio today:  "Republicans promised that TAX CUTS would trigger 'job creators' to create jobs................WHERE ARE THE JOBS?" .  Similarly "the GOP took the US House in 2010 promising to create jobs - yet they have only blocked Obama's initiatives for job creation".

In the US health care debate - Europe was promoted as the reference standard for "social justice".  America could only one day hope to achieve such a status - we were told by Bill Maher and other Progressive-Fundamentalists.   Yet when their "high tax"/ "high redistribution" policies came crashing down under the weight of its overhead - instead of pondering the forces cast by the system - the BANKS were blamed as the source of the problem.

Beyond the clash on the theory of job creation (government vs private sector) is the willful avoidance to indict the MACHINE that Obama sits atop of - with these very same charges.   I maintain that between the "economic hijacking attempts" of both the left and the right - it is the Progressive-left that holds the monopoly balance of "Equal Black Ballots" in their storehouses - providing evidence that the balance of the Black community had bought into their job creation theories.

Jobs are on balance a local economic phenomenon with regional and national and international forces bearing down upon them.  Without the fundamental match up between supply and demand - with an ORGANIC demand for the end product of the process - there will be no jobs.   Our indebted government can only print more money out of thin air as it attempts to prime the jobs pump.  Even Commander In Chief Obama acknowledges that jobs are principally a private sector phenomenon.

Where We Presently Stand With Reference To The Black Progressive Community Development Agenda

DETROIT!!!

The reason why Michele Martin's recent report on Detroit is relevant to this analysis of Obama is because she, like a recent edition of "Ebony magazine" focused upon Detroit's attempted revival.  In both cases they sold us on the potential and future greatness of the city.   The forces that erected the scaffolding of the power structure which was assembled during the erosion were not blamed for the injuries suffered by the Black community there.

In the quest to produce "good news stories" for Black people to get motivated off of - those who have no problem pounding us with awareness of the presence of threats to our permanent interests when they don't match a certain IDEOLOGICAL framework are equally careful to not harp upon failures of the Establishment Machine - least they been cast as "anti-Black".     "What you don't believe that Black people can govern ourselves when we are given power?".

My problem with this type of cajoling is that it sets the stage for the Black Press to abandon its watch dog role.  With the rhetorical comment above being artificially cast as WHAT WHITE PEOPLE THINK ABOUT US - the natural racial defensiveness that those who I see as "embedded confidence men" are empowered as the necessary management function through (occasional) confrontation is put aside.
One need not be bigoted or biased in their scrutiny to carry out effective oversight.  You just need a TRANSPARENT FRAMEWORK of good governance to operate by.

My challenge to "Tell Me More" and "Ebony Magazine" is to explain - Why no warning lights went off on the "Black Progressive Press dash board"

It is time for the Black Press to imagine:
  • Mayor Ronald Reagan
  • City Council President George W Bush
  • Police Chief Frank Rizzo
and fight to hold the establishment machine as accountable for RESULTS  - now that they have received the investments of the "Equal Black Ballots" as they do Republicans who threaten to STEAL Black votes via VOTER SUPPRESSION.

Is Ballot Investment Misappropriation not a greater force today than the incidences of voter suppression?

This is why I said earlier that Commander In Chief Obama's choice to shift the indictment on anemic job creation back to 2001 rather than affixing it to the "Black Community Development Scheme" that was erected by his ideological soulmates permitted Obama to operate the debate on his terms.

Again - I did not expect Michelle Martin to go into the conversation with such a perspective - but this is the correct perspective to appraise the situation by.

In explaining the gap between the general unemployment rate of 9.2% and the Black rate of 16.2% - RACISM(!!!) is the first story out of the box.

It is legitimate for me to consider all of the "human resource development INSTITUTIONS" that have been placed favorably into play as part of the 1968 strategy and expect to see a closing of this gap as "Black people are less prone to catch economic pneumonia" as anti-discrimination laws are enforced and, more importantly the engines of ECONOMIC UPLIFT within our community are set to full power.

Unfortunately few people are inclined to talk about this power structure that was built up for this very purpose also has a block of PUBLIC POLICY assumptions that accompany it.  These policies were invested upon.  The question is "Who is protecting our community's investments?".

Republican operative Grover Norquist is always attributed with having a certain anti-tax perspective which he influences various GOP elected officials like a king maker. The Progressive news analysis shows (hint MSNBC) always take him to task as "the problem". This may be so - but this is only one half of the equation. In nearly every European riot and civil action in Wisconsin and the New York City "Bloombergville" when a microphone is stuck in front of a progressive demonstrator who opposes the austerity cuts - "Tax The Rich!!!" is their constant refrain.

When the platform of theories that are popular WITHIN the Black community are placed up to the light for transparent scrutiny - just as the theories of the popular right-wing conservative enemies are used to countenance the entrenchment in progressivism - the RESULTS had in our community will begin to look a lot more like the contents of the investment prospectus that always seems to be printed up on campaign letter head.

The basic integrity of our BLACK COMMUNITY INSTITUTIONS is dependent upon those who have the most power to erect and enforce the STANDARDS OF INTEGRITY for them.

Today we suffer because the fusion of these institutions provide short term gains for the joint venture partners but long term pain for our community interests.

Obama is not "my problem".
Those who yield our institutions to the machine that he is apart of ARE!!!
