Rev. Joseph Lowery, an iconic Godfather in the civil rights community, says Black leaders must consider "the political realities" of what President Obama can and cannot do and the racism that he is facing before they arbitrarily take to criticizing him.
"I think we have to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point on many issues. If we have a substantial difference, we just let him have it. We should let him know how we feel, but it doesn't mean we can withdraw our support and we can't pretend that he doesn't have an extra burden because of his color," Lowery said. "But when there is a substantial difference when we think he did wrong on an issue, I think we have an obligation to deal with it."
Lowery spoke to Trice Edney News Wire on this issue in the wake of a highly publicized and rancorous debate between National Action Network leader Rev. Al Sharpton and Princeton University professor Cornell West, author of a string of books on Black culture, including "Race Matters."
I became familiar with journalist Hazel Trice Edney when I became a consumer of the news from the National Newspaper Publisher's Association as they put their content on line more than 10 years ago. As the White House correspondent she was assigned to President Bush's first news conference. In her first dispatch about the President Bush Administration - after that long December 2000 when she and the rest of the Black Press operatives had the drafts of their printed copy smudged by the tears that they shed surrounding the events from the Supreme Court ruling in "Bush v Gore" - Ms Edney used her first report to get even. Ms Edney stood out in that she reported that George W Bush had not called on any Black people in his first news conference. This proved to me that she had gotten her press credentials from the "Jack White's Ronald Reagan Went To Philly To Insult Black People Correspondence Course".
The same people who were not bothered by Obama being asked to detail his most "enchanting moment in the White House" during his first news conference as Essence Magazine and Johnson Publishing assigned reporters to cover the "Obama White House" appear to not see the blurred vision of the "double standards" that they promote.
Racism Chasing Has Doubled Back On Itself Into A Protection Racket That Harms Black People

This slanted coverage and fusion of the "Black Community Consciousness" with the methodological channels that you have chosen remains POPULAR among Black people and thus you are not going to be called "SELLOUTS" for the behavior that is a business school "use case" of such a practice.
From their type written pages will not come the COST TO THE BLACK COMMUNITY of that which the congregation has voted to accept in the majority - with the elders who are in on the fix being assigned to count the ballots - the preacher serving as the judge.
Speaking In Tongues In The Voice Of Obama
I challenge everyone to read the article linked at "The Trice Edney Wire" in which Civil Rights Pharisee Rev Joseph E Lowery translates to us Black folks the strategic important of an "Obama Second Term". In 2010 mid-term elections full sized Obama cardboard cut outs could be seen on "Rev Joseph E Lowery Blvd" in Atlanta and other places were Black folks travel heavily with the phrase "Stand With Obama" as the key marketing slogan. As we heard in the 2010 "National Action Network" forum which I posted the video for - the #1 goal for the "Black Racial Services Machine" for 2010 was to help the Democrats retain the US House BECAUSE Obama would need their help to pass CIVIL RIGHTS LEGISLATION (the words of NAACP's Ben Jealous).
What we have is a rather intricate marketing machine that has fused itself upon the Black Community's Consciousness.
Seriously people - could anyone have imaged that the people who had the "Speak Truth To Power" leather gloves and campaign buttons to demonstrate their angry resolve would one day be heard openly debating the practicality of departing from their White House - Black Press talking point coordination session and then MAINTAIN the voice of BLACK PEOPLE - not being contaminated by their executive mansion visit?
The problem is that the narrative of the word "Sellout" has never been applied to those who depart from the interests of the Black community toward a POPULAR external interest. Since those who normally do the calling - have also FUSED these two domains ("American Polticial Domain" and the "Community Cultural Consciousness & Competency Development Domain" ) the ONLY JOB FOR ME WHO IS WATCHING THEM - is to sit back and see just home much dignity and self-worth they actually have within them.
My mouth remains in an open mouth gape at which I am seeing. After this process - nothing can be allowed to be the same. Their masks have come off and they have shown who they really are.
The Lack Of Infrastructure Within The Black Community Within Which The Hijacking Takes Place
The problem with Rev Lowery's comments above is that while he is able to make note of the "Arbitray Attacks On Obama" (by the White Tea Parties)..........................his own ideological bigotry suppresses his "Intellecutal Curiosity" as to how Black people - living vicariously through Obama have SUPPRESSED their criticism of Obama - despite the eroding fortures of Black America as the "Racial Services Machine" has sat silent and have only waged attacks on "Tea Party Milia threats".
Most people also fail to make note of the ARCHITECTURE that has been assembled by the "Black Racial Services Machine". With us focused on Obama's fortunes at the national level we are not made to see that they have been successful at constructing a multi-teired Progressive-Democratic coalition at each rung of government - including unoffiical community organizers and the governance of our Black households. The focus on Obama is merely an attempt to UNIFY the troops to look past their own droppings. The inclusion of RACISM(!!!!!) is the pheromone that those who know Black people best make use of to maintain the "Racially Defensive Disposition" that they need to have their way with us.
Why is it that those who see that the fight called "The War On Terrorism" used fear to have us "give away our freedoms" yet was as "Equal Human Beings" and thus subject to the very same prodding can be manipulated in the racial interest domain?
Obama's Presidency represents to unmitigated fusion between the once independent Black Community Uplift Movement and the American Political Domain. Every "Black Leader" of any substance is now a player in Progressive-Democratic Party politics.
I am now forced to admit that I miss the sight of Tavis Smiley's "State Of The Black Union" infrastructure and its array of progressive-biased panelists shown on stage every year, a few weeks after MLK Day. At least they had some pretence of independence from the political machine. Today there is a wholesale fusion between those Black progressive satellites and the interests of Obama and the Democratic Party.
Mr Smiley did not realize what had hit him as the "Obama logo" eclipsed his brand -as the diagram above indicates. While those who engage in transactional debates - for the uplift of Obama - were provoked to call Smiley-West "petty" and "jealous" of Obama's success - they lack the vision to see that the "Black Progressive community" just shut down some key INSTITUTIONS that had been built up along the way. Just as integration has shut down the community juke joint in favor of "Appleby's" at the suburban mall - so to has this more pronounced fusion with the "American Political Domain" functionally cropped Mr Smiley's solar radiation back down to a mere luminary for "PBS / NPR".
The way out of this, Mr Smiley and Prof West (and I hope that you are reading this) is NOT some notion of "going to the right" to counter this force (which I know that this will not happen with you).
The solution is to develop a foundation of TRANSPARENCY, upon which any METHODOLOGY is later built upon.
"Progressivism" and "Conservatism" are methodologies that purport to achieve a certain end. While you wrote what I called at the time a "Position Paper" in your "The Convanent With Black America" you failed to adequately define the transparent foundations. "Blacks should support mass transit" is a METHODOLOGY. I heard on the radio yesterday that an Internet start up is using technology by which a group of users will agree to share their privately owned cars in a "ride share pool" in the name of "cooperative economics" and "resource maximization". This is no less of a viable METHODOLOGY than what you had proposed. It is only your confined ideological constraints that will ensure that this Internet start up will one day have an IPO for $200 million (pure speculation on my part just to make a point) while Black people who are waiting on the bus stop will marvel at the news that such wealth was created seemingly out of scratch.
The point is that the foundational point is that "Black people need to be transported to and from work" he "HOW" need not necarily be cast in stone in a book that you publish.
By far, however, the greatest failing of the institutional void that exists is that you never defined a "Back Out Process". We know the instructions going forward by which your METHODOLOGY is applied to bring greatness to the Black community............................were are the provisions for the independent appraisers to make measure of the EFFICACY of the plan, OVER TIME and then raise awareness of the short-falls and then PULL THE PLUG on the entire exercise? While the plan met the necessary IDEOLOGICAL requirements to receive a unanimous vote (at the NAACP convention) - once the scheme was on the road - it could not bring forth the benefits to our community's interests that it was sold to us upon.
Worse yet - the very same "embedded confidence men" who sold us that THIS would be the primary gateway through which Black people receive our "Social Justice" glory - are never terminated along with the removal of their failed plans. They seem to make use of this governance void and their attachment to the community to execute yet another run of "gravitational pull" upon the community's confidence.
With such an absraction between their ability to emotionally draw in Black people and the RESULTS - WHO is left to enforce the INTEGRITY that needs to be present inside the "Black Racial Consciousness Nucleus"?
When it is proven, time and time again that CONGREGATIONAL COMPLICITY is all one needs to do what he pleases - we merely have a "preacher" at the helm of the "Black Community Church" who tells us that "Jesus" has annoited him to keep his feet moving and not look at the "doggie do" that he has previously tracked upon the berber carpet of our "Racial Consciousness Nucleus".
WHO WILL PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF OUR "RACIAL CONSCIOUSNESS NUCLEUS"?
