The Huffington Post gave such an opportunity to Rep Charlie Rangel who used the "ad space" on HuffPo to tell us all that Bush's "Tax Cuts For The Rich" was the cause of our deficits (and increased military spending) - never once mentioning the rampant growth in entitlement programs.
Washington Post Fact Check
The Facts
President Bush instituted two big tax cuts, one in 2001 and another in 2003. The first was implemented amid rosy predictions of a 10-year, $5.6 trillion surplus; the second was enacted after the economy appeared to stumble after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
When the tax cuts were passed, the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation estimated how much they might reduce revenue: the 2001 tax cuts was pegged at $1.35 trillion over 10 years; the 2003 tax cut was setat $350 billion over 10 years.
The Use Of Manipulation Right Before Your Eyes
The "Professional Left" makes a sport out of attacking the "Bush Tax Cuts For The Rich" which lowered federal revenues between $1.6 to $2 TRILLION dollars OVER TEN YEARS.
These same people can't seem to come to grips with the fact that today our YEARLY deficits are $1.2 trillion or greater for the past 3 years (the present year's projections included in this count).
The famous "surplus" that President Clinton left and Bush squandered was an estimated $230 billion.
President Clinton announced Wednesday that the federal budget surplus for fiscal year 2000 amounted to at least $230 billion, making it the largest in U.S. history and topping last year's record surplus of $122.7 billion."This represents the largest one-year debt reduction in the history of the United States," Clinton said Wednesday morning. "Like our American athletes in Sydney, we've been breaking records and have come a long way."In June, the administration predicted the surplus would be $211 billion, and would increase by as much as $1 trillion over the next 10 years.
Can You Claim A "Budget Surplus" While Having Trillions In Debt Hanging Over Your Head?
The Myth Of The Clinton Surplus
It seems to me that decades into the future the same people who tell us about:
- Nixon's "Southern Strategy" is still hurting Blacks
- Ronald Reagan went to Philly MS to disrespect Black people
- George W Bush squandered the Clinton Surplus
will also be the one's looking past Obama's deficit spending which is on track to outpace Bush's deficit spending.
