Let me be clear - I applaud both of these groups for maintaining consistency with their core beliefs - in balance. It comes as no surprise that the Progressive-left is conflicted with this matter. Their tendency to hate war is conflicted with their desire to support a Progressive Democratic President. Credit is due to these two organizations because they went against the grain and protested against the war action by "the United States".
The purpose of this post is to document the nuances of "An Anti-War Protest In The Age Of Obama".
NOI leader Louis Farrakhan realizes that he is walking a fine line. Despite claiming moral authority in defense of "Africa - The Motherland" - Farrakhan knows that he cannot make Commander In Chief Obama - the face of the US Military war effort in Africa. If Farrakhan were to use the image of Obama in a manner that he often uses references to Bush/Cheney and the "White Right-Wing" he knows that he would lose support by Black people in doing so.
As I read through all of the articles in this week's Final Call - (please note this article is not an attack on "The Final Call" but instead a documentation of the forces swirling on the left) - this fine line that they must walk is obvious. The words "The United States" and "NATO" are used in place of "Obama" - the Commander In Chief over the US Military forces - the largest military and funding source for the NATO alliance. While Farrakhan - in the portions of the speech that is captured by the Final Call - makes references to "the Black man or White man in the White House", it was a staff writer in a sidebar story that makes direct use of the word "Obama".
"Minster Farrakhan always speaks the truth, he is always truthful and when he talks about Zionist media and how Obama has been compromised, these are truths that a lot of people - even Black people don't want to hear, but it is truth" - Amiri Baraka
The "Obama Fist Bump Black Press" Did Not Show Up To Support Their Progressive Brothers and Sisters In Defense Of Africa
It is rare that we have a baseline reference to contrast people's present actions against. In the case of the protests against the "Imperialist War In Libya" of today we have the reference to "The Anti-Bush-War Protests" from about 6 years ago.
As an observer of Black-Progressive political operations I apply a baseline filter on certain words that I hear. (example - at the "Shrine Of The Black Madonna - Anti-War In Libya" rally a room full of Progressives are going to say things that should be filtered out. "Death To America. Death To Israel" said by ONE man in the audience. Unlike Oliver Willis of Media Matters- my agenda is to understand the forces that are bearing down upon the Black community and erect a defensive barrier - not a game of "gotcha chum feeding")
With the background noise duly filtered out - the most glaring character of the August 13th rally in Harlem was:
- The Signage on display at the rally
- The absence of the 'Black Press' and subsequent blackout of their coverage of this event on their propaganda venues
The Signage
The Black Press Coverage
Credit to "The Black Electorate" for their coverage of this event in Harlem last week.
Beyond this the "usual suspect" did not cover this event.
The strange part about this position is that the content of the speeches focused upon "the protection of Africa from imperialist exploitation". If you listen to Black American political discourse this is an important concept contained within.
Unfortunately in this same discourse is a fear that "Rush Limbaugh is watching the infighting" and thus they choose to remain silent. What they are saying is that the OPINIONS of an external right-wing White man are SUPERIOR to their own conscious linkage to the people in Africa who are a part of the Black diaspora.
Upon further investigation we find that the truth is that Limbaugh is merely cover for the real villain - their intent to defend their PROGRESSIVE-FUNDAMENTALIST IDEOLOGY in the domestic affairs of the United States.
In a few weeks all of the Civil Rights Pharisees will be on stage in Washington DC. Following them will be these same "Obama Fist Bump Black Press" forces. They will use the occasion of the dedication of the King Memorial in Washington DC to "self-celebrate" the accomplishments that they have made for Black people.
The one thing that we can be all sure of is that NO PROTESTERS, operating in the spirit of Dr King - will interrupt the speeches of President Obama or any Civil Rights Pharisee on stage as they grab the mantle of King to protest the American imperialist war effort in Africa.
SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER - is rude when it interrupts a Black Progressive-Fundamentalist self-celebration
