Let me be the first one to admit - the Black community is blessed (or damned) with some strong Progressive voices in the news media.
It is clear they realize that the system that we live in can't suffer a sustained attack on "the norm" and survive without its idiosyncratic faults being exposed. With the progressives taking control over the language - those who once defended the system will soon be labeled as "bigots".
The grand flaw of progressive-fundamentalists like Leonard Pitts, however, is that beyond their strong voice of advocacy - they are unwilling to do an inspection of the grand failure that so frequently transpires as the "Mission Accomplished" flag is unfurled upon the carcass of the former establishment power now defeated.
In the view of Mr Pitts (and others) - 40 Million drug arrests while we still have a rampant drug problem is evidence of FAILURE.
Yet Mr Pitts does not appear to have the intellectual curiosity to proclaim that:
- The successful erection of the Progressive Machine within the same Black communities that are suffering what the NAACP alleges - has failed to mitigate the damage of the Drug Trade and resulting Government Enforcements
- The promotion of favorable "Police command staffs", as appointed by the major and authorized by the city councils that received 50%+1 of the Black community's votes - has failed to mitigate the damage of the Drug Trade and resulting Government Enforcements
From The Leonard Pitts article
Here’s why this matters. Or, more to the point, why it matters more than if such a statement came from Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. The NAACP is not just the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. It is also its most conservative.
That word is used here not in the modern sense of tea party antics or Fox “News” rantings but, rather, in the original sense, denoting a propensity toward caution and a distrust of the bold, the risky, the new. And that’s the NAACP all over.
Let the Universal Negro Improvement Association go back to Africa. Let the Nation of Islam preach black supremacy. Let the Congress of Racial Equality launch Freedom Rides.
The NAACP went to court.
Yes, the comparison is simplistic, but it’s essentially apt. Nor is the point of it to disparage — after all, going to court produced a landmark ruling in 1954. No, it’s only to say there has always been something determinedly middle class and cautious about the NAACP. This is the group whose then-leader, Roy Wilkins, famously detested Martin Luther King for his street theatrics.
For that group, then, to demand an end to the Drug War represents a monumental sea change.

Leonard Pitts claims that the NAACP is a "classically conservative" organization - preferring to use the institutions of law and law making to foment "progressive societal change". One has to assume that Mr Pitts believes that after the NAACP has "seen enough" - they are now compelled to go into action. They plan to use the very same channels that have today brought us "high performing Black public schools". Oh wait a minute.............
I just scanned the Leonard Pitts article archive. While I did see a full accounting of Sarah Palin's scheme to fool America...........I did not run across any deposits by which Mr Pitts scrutinized the ineffectiveness of the "Non-Conservative 'Civil Rights Groups' " as contrasted with the NAACP who plan to take the bastards to court in pursuit of Black progress.
The Main Flaw With Leonard Pitts and The NAACP - It Focuses On Regulating The Government Actions Rather Than Aligning The Repetitive Actions Of Black People In With Our Key 'Directed Outcomes'
My main hit against White Progressive Cheshire Fox Tim Wise is that he has noting to suggest to Black people what we should do as the cornerstone for our ORGANIC uplift. Instead he asks that we join in with "White (Progressive) men of good will" into political coalitions so that our interests can be achieved - or at least intended to be.
In my estimation the modern day NAACP is little different from the Tim Wise message except that they do a better job in enshrining the "Black Community Development Struggle" in with that of Progressive Politics and the Democratic Party in specifically.
As we consider the machinations behind what is called "The War On Drugs" it should be understood as:
- A body of laws which categorize certain drugs as worthy of criminal sanction
- A strategy for police interdiction of drug suspects under the guise of community safety
- A set of "rules of engagement" between law enforcement officials at the local, state, federal law enforcement, US Military and international level
- A framework for prosecutions and prison sentencing
- A resulting fiscal footprint for each of these elements, particularly the Prison Industrial Complex spending to detain those who have been caught up in the web
As progressive-fundamentalists - the NAACP (and Mr Pitts) believes that the government should shift its strategy on a wholesale basis. The government should offer help and treatment for drug users. At a macro-level - the system must provide productive jobs for people who are today prompted to turn to the streets to make money as all other legitimate channels have been cut off. Those who are cut off from the larger economy are made to suffer from the "benign neglect" that the system which will later arrest them has orchestrated.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ABOVE GRID?
The grid documents the leadership in 2011 in places where a very sizable slice of the Black community lives.
Despite the fact that in nearly every one of these zones the Black voter has invested "50% + 1" of their "Equal Black Ballots" into securing the position of power and their appointed law enforcement officer - the NAACP, Leonard Pitts and other progressive-fundamentalists pretend that this nation has a "Bull Conner" force that is presiding over the criminal justice system.
On the front end we see either outward support for the machine that is in power were Black people live in our highest concentrations OR the lack of evidence of protestations of their presence and policies should prove to all who care to notice that the NAACP is largely pleased with their presence.
The lifetime of the NAACP can be roughly summarized as:
- The Struggle To Get Black People Recognized As "Equal Human Beings" Under The Law and thus have assaults upon our person duly prosecuted
- The Struggle To Get Black People's Ballots Recognized As Equal as the government was asked to remove the impediments that prevented Black people from depositing our ballots into the box
- The Execution of the "Bayard Ruskin-Voiced Strategy" where the Black community was to be made prosperous by the installation of favorable progressives into power as Democrats
- The Great Unmasking - Where The Organization No Longer Even Pretends To Be Anything But Progressive-Democrats - As proof that all of the low hanging fruits of "The Struggle for Black Justice" has been consumed - they fused in with their "Progressive Joint Venture Partners" and have adopted other special interests issues as their own
The next phase of the NAACP's existence (and that of the Black Racial Services Machine in general) is seen in their announced plan to end the "War On Drugs".
If you expect that protests will be held against any of the leaders that are posted above. You are wrong. In reference to Mr Pitts' claimed "conservatism" of the NAACP - not even radical Black leftists are waging anything more than transactional protests against the mayor or police chiefs. Credit Rev Al Sharpton for at least admitting that he is silent against his "Permanent Friend" because he does not wish to harm his reelection chances. For the rest of the Black Racial Services Machine - their silence against the forces that they assisted into power at every rung of government simply means that the BLACK COMMUNITY is forced to carry their water. The "Black Permanent Interests" are necessarily put into forbearance as the choice to remain consistent will prove damaging to the machine that was erected for the purposes of the attainment of these same interests.
It should be clear by now that Leonard Pitts has failed to do a proper analysis of the entire MACHINE that the NAACP operates within. The "War On Drugs" is EXECUTED TODAY with the complicit actions of those who the Black community has voted for. The planned change of course of the NAACP has a peculiar delicate balance to it.
- It is forced to push the GOVERNMENT to change its policies in regards to drugs
- It is forced to push the GOVERNMENT to REGULATE other entities in the lower rungs of GOVERNMENT so that they are sanctioned for failing to abide by the newly liberalized drug policies
- It is forced to demand that the GOVERNMENT provide both addiction treatment services for "the least of these" and to create a more productive jobs market so that individuals won't turn to drugs as a money making venture
The gaping hole in this strategy is that it:
- Fails to make note of the investments by the Black community into the establishment authorities who are now running "The War On Drugs"
- It does not ask the BLACK COMMUNITY to be the primary agent for CHANGE - using the tightly woven fabric of our community to be the primary defense against the infestations of drugs into our communities
With this as the case - the removal of "The War On Drugs" and changing it into "The Fight To Regulate The Behavior Of The System" is doomed to meet the same fate as other Progressive ideas that had great intentions but which ultimately gave us Detroit.
Yet the machine did not get fired. They only placed new horsemen on the donkey and called it "Change We Will Compel You To Believe In - One Opinion Column At A Time" - just prior to the No Confidence Vote.
