Just imagine - after years of seeking to purge BLACK DEMOCRATS out of power because they are RACISTS(!!!!)........now the boys in red are seeking to strike out against their own blood brothers. (I can be made to believe that the South is preparing another succession movement. After all - I read the posts on "We Are Respectable Negroes" last night while I was exercising).
Georgia House Democratic Leader Stephanie Abrams Accuses Georgia Republicans Of Purging WHITE Democrats By Paring Them Against Black Democrats In Primary Elections |
Analysis:
This case has me thrown for a loop with respect to my tendency to assign a label to the actions of some.
This is not "Racism Chasing" because Ms Abrams is not directly advocating for Black people with her indictment. In the battle between the wolf and the fox - of course she a supporter of the fox.
The actions of Ms Abrams must be analyzed in the context of the integrated state that most Black Americans have reached with reference to the "American Political Domain". Abrams as the party leader in the Georgia State House - is merely operating in the best interests of her Democratic Party. The indictment against the Republicans are meant to shame them - while she has the normal RACIAL indictment removed from her arsenal.
To be clear there is no possible scenario in today's political vernacular in which a group of WHITE Democrats would be accused of purging wolves from a legislative chamber. With MSNBC's Ed Schultz broadcasting his remote in Wisconsin as he seeks to remove 6 White Republicans and replace them with 6 White Democrats - there simply is no equivalency here.
Abrams real goal is to protect the Democratic Party base in the GA House and in the state politics in general. The election of 2010 saw, for the very first time since Reconstruction every state constitutional office in Georgia being represented by a Republican. If this is the "Southern Strategy" has arrived about 35 years late.
The Hidden Hand Of The Voting Rights Act And The Protection Of "Majority Minority Districts"
I am on record as being against "Majority Minority" districts. They work COUNTER to the interests of Black Americans. They only favor the elected Black progressive establishment. The MIGRATION PATTERNS OF BLACK PEOPLE - that the US Census has exposed - show that "Black Flight Progressives" are exiting these "Mission Accomplished", safe districts and are moving out to more conservative and (perish the thought) SOUTHERN States - where the Tea Party appears to be rooted in - per the recent analysis from the various sources that Black Progressives syndicate from.
The second part of the story is the news that the White Democrats are forced to fight for their political survival by being locked in a Democratic Primary battle with a Black Democratic caucus member who has the advantage of residing in a district that has been purposefully sculpted to ensure his victory.
What if it IS the case that the Tea Party inspired Republicans said " Since you like Ninja's so much you can fight for your political life against one of them from your own party"? How is this any different than the "Free Range Negro" effect suffered by Herman Cain or Rep Allen West? Answer - ITS NOT!!!!!
My beloved ideological mentor - Rev Joseph Lowery warned us of this day. For several decades I heard the man give his "Come Under My Tent And Drop Your Foolishness" in response to the warnings that political parties in Georgia are becoming increasingly "racially identifiable". With the power of "Social Justice" in his hand - Rev Lowery was compelled to bash his ideological enemies upon the head - asking them to prove that they had sense by joining within him on his terms. No Tea Party negotiator has ever been more intransigent.
We saw the reaction when 2 former Black Democrats swung over to the "Evil Side" about two years ago. Even as one of them maintained his radio spot on "Fight The Power Radio" as late as 6 weeks ago I heard a caller ask Ashley Bell (R-GA), city councilman of Gainesville GA if he ".......regretted his switch and if he is ready to come back to his people?" Again - how is this sentiment any different what what the hidden Republican hand is swatting White Democrats with in the Georgia Redistricting battle?
I pointed out that the danger of Tom Joyner, Bev Smith and Dr Ron Daniels "taking their masks off" and making open appeals for "Black people to vote
Instead such a strategy takes away even the feigned MORAL AUTHORITY that the Black Progressive-Fundamentalist had been able to hide behind in the past. When BLACK INTERESTS are put on the crap table and used in a high stakes gamble - the ample evidence that the leadership HAS FAILED to produce "Organic Competencies" within our community makes it so that the lash back will be that more painful.
IT WAS YOU who decided to step in the path of that 325lb line backer who is playing in the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" that YOU have invested our community's development goals within. When he flattens you out and gives you a concussion - it was NOT because he is "superior" to you - it was that you have failed to see that this ain't your game - and even if it was - you did not choose to build up your 180 lb frame and drooping shoulders prior to you taking him on. You thought that your Cheshire Fox friend was going to assist you in tackling. He moved out of the way because he and Tim Wise heard the Republicans plotting on what they were going to do to you.
I still maintain that after the future economic and cultural strife in this nation takes over the "Fox" and the "Wolf" will still be at each other's throats but will do so on a LAND OF THEIR OWN. Absent the need for the "Equal Black Ballot" and the failure for the Black Community to implement a system of ORGANIC COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT - the diagram that I have crafted regarding Brother Malcolm's warnings will be proven true. By that time you will have woken up from your "concussed state".
From The AJC story:
The top Georgia House Democrat on Monday accused her Republican colleagues of working to systematically eliminate white Democrats in the General Assembly.
House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, D-Atlanta, told more than 300 people at a panel discussion on voting rights that the looming Republican plan for redistricting pairs many white Democrats into districts currently led by black Democrats.
Republicans who are controlling the process, she said, plan to create 49 "majority-minority" House districts, an increase of seven over the current configuration. "They accomplished this by purging the state of Georgia of white Democrats," Abrams, who is black, said. "Almost without exception in the Fulton-DeKalb area, if you are a white Democrat who is near an African-American, you were paired and you are going to have to run against one another."
Rep. Roger Lane, R-Darien, the chairman of the House committee on redistricting, said Abrams' comments don't have "any validity" and weren't worthy of comment. Lane added, however, that a draft map would be released on Friday for public examination.
House Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, with whom Abrams has enjoyed a positive relationship, said he was "disappointed Democratic leadership in the House would stoop this low."
The General Assembly reconvenes Monday in Atlanta for a special session on redistricting, the every 10-year process following the Census where states redraw the lines of legislative districts. It is a hugely important process to elected officials as a minor change in district lines can spell the difference between re-election and forced retirement.
Republicans control the process in Georgia by virtue of their control of the House, Senate and governor's office. But Georgia is also one of nine states that must get federal approval for any change in election law, including redistricting. Abrams said that review, required by the Voting Rights Act, will be important.
But, Abrams said Republicans are using the Voting Rights Act as a weapon because the landmark law generally prevents the dilution of minority voting strength. That means any proposed map must not feature fewer majority-minority districts than are currently featured.
"What they’ve said to every member who questioned [why] they were going to get competition … they said the Voting Rights Act made me do it," she said. "When you use suppression by inclusion it is a violation of the Voting Rights spirit. It is a craven and cynical attempt to say we as Georgians don’t know what we’re getting."
The ultimate goal for Republicans, Abrams said, is to gain a large enough majority to enact constitutional amendments without Democratic votes. It takes a two-thirds vote in each chamber to put constitutional questions on the ballot. In the House, that means 120 votes; in the Senate, it take 38. The House maps as drawn by Republicans, Abrams said, are designed to create 121 Republican seats.
Still, Abrams said, Republicans are only doing what they learned by watching Democrats in the past, when the roles of power were reversed.
