Technology Snares Street Pirate Car Thieves.

In Georgia when you see an increasing number of police cruisers parked on the side of the road, seemingly sitting idle - they are actually scanning all of the license of the cars that pass by.

With a combination of computer vision technology and improved wireless data capabilities - these cruisers are able to find stolen cars (or outstanding warrants) based on its ability to passively scan the large volume of cars (and registered owners) that travel into its field of vision.

Though this cruiser has only two camera, that allow the system to scan vehicles that pass from the rear - the Georgia State Patrol has a third camera - allowing the cruiser to scan a license as the trooper drives up from behind you (a front facing camera) or as the cruiser is parked on EITHER side of the road as vehicles pass on the right or left.
